Travis Kelce understands that Taylor Swift prefers not to postpone shows because of bad weather.
"I went there hoping to catch Taylor's second show, but it got rained out - actually, it got thunder and lightninged out," Kelce, 34, mentioned on the Wednesday, November 15, episode of his "New Heights" podcast. "She wasn't too pleased about it - she kinda prides herself on performing in any weather, rain or whatever. But when it's unsafe for her, her crew, and everyone in the stadium, you gotta do what you gotta do."
Travis noted that "lighting and electronics don’t go together very well," and his brother and cohost, Jason Kelce, made a joke referencing Swift's song "Labyrinth" from her 2022 album, Midnights.
"Sounds like a maze of problems there," he quipped.
Swift, 33, announced the postponement of her second Buenos Aires show just hours before the performance on Friday, November 10.
"I love performing in the rain, but I'm never going to put my fans or my fellow performers and crew in danger. We've rescheduled tonight's Buenos Aires show for Sunday because the weather is so chaotic that it would be unsafe to attempt this concert. The good news is I get to stay in Argentina longer," she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
After the announcement, Swift made the most of her unexpected free night by having dinner with Travis.
"The first night I was there was really the only opportunity I had to go for dinner," Travis explained during Wednesday’s “New Heights” episode. "It was the night the show got postponed, so we didn't want to just go out and have a blast around the city - like we didn't care about the show. So we made sure we stayed in the hotel and kept to ourselves."
He continued, "We got some good food, had some empanadas and steak. ... They have great steak down there."
The change of plans also allowed Travis to meet Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, and persuade him to switch allegiance from being an Eagles fan to a Chiefs fan. (Scott, 71, was spotted wearing a Chiefs lanyard next to Travis at the Eras Tour performance in Buenos Aires on Saturday, November 11.)
Jason, 36, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, teased Travis about Scott’s change of heart.
"You're going to let this man's devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a life of fandom, Scott?" he joked during the episode. "This is ridiculous."
Travis had a fantastic experience at the Buenos Aires show. (Although he attended a July Eras Tour stop in Kansas City previously, this weekend was his first time attending the concert since starting a relationship with Taylor).
"The stadium was incredible. I forget what it was called, it looked like a soccer stadium," he said. "I think it was north of 65, like 70,000 [people]. ... I was blown away. The crowd was electric too."
During the show, fans captured Travis' adorable reaction to Taylor changing a lyric in her song "Karma." In viral clips, he smiled and put his hands up to his face in surprise when Taylor sang, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me." (The original lyric, "Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me," appears to reference actor Joe Alwyn, whom Taylor split from in April after six years of dating.)
Travis responded to the lyric change on Wednesday. "I might have had a hint, but hearing it come out of her mouth still shocked me," he told Jason. "I was like, 'Oh, she really just said that.'"
At the end of the concert, Taylor ran to embrace Travis, who was waiting for her by a tent. She wrapped her arms around Travis' neck, and they kissed. The pair continued kissing until they entered the closed-off tent.
